Hector was born in Douglas, California. Later his family made a move to the Riverside area, where he grew-up and graduated from Chaffey High School.
Hector enlisted in the US Navy 15 March 1966, at a recruiting office in Los Angeles.
Upon arriving in Vietnam, Hector was assigned to H & S Company, 1st Battalion, 9th Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division. During Operation Buffalo the Marine Company he was with was ambushed on Route 561 and 3 kilometers northeast of Con Thien. Hostile forces used automatic weapons and mortar fire on the Marines. There were 92 KIA's during the ambush. Hector died as a result of gunshot wounds to the body from hostile small arms fire.
Hector was single and served his country for 1 year,3 months and 17 days and was KIA #14,098.
Tour of duty unknown.
Hector was 19 years, 10 months and 3 days old.
Survived by his mother and stepfather; Elodia Aguilar Monreal and Benjamin Monreal of 4492 Mobley Avenue, Riverside, California, and his father; Gerald M Fuentes of unknown address.
