He was born March 9, 1931 in Logan, UT, the son of Ariel J. Berntson and Elva Johnson.
Raised in Logan, he attended Adams Elementary, Logan Jr. and Sr. High Schools. He was active in scouting earning an Eagle Scout award. He served an LDS mission in London and surrounding cities. Resumed schooling at Utah State and earned a B.S. Degree in Economics. Reed married Valena Meyrick in 1956, in the Logan Temple. He served in many church positions including Elder's Quorum President, Bishopric Counselor, Scouting Assistant, and many others. He was a salesman for various companies including Brown Distributing, and recently employed by Crawford Doors in advertising. He loved golf, fishing, traveling, family outings, and being with friends.
He is survived by his wife; and daughters, Janis McClellan (West Jordan), Jayne Springman (So. Jordan); seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and a sister, Shirley Iverson (Mesquite, NV). Preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Ariel James, Jr.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December, 27, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Millcreek 2nd Ward Chapel, 4220 South Jeanine Drive (400 East). Friends may visit with the family on Friday evening at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 South 2300 East, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and at the Church on Saturday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to the services.
Interment will be held at the Logan City Cemetery at approximately 2:30 p.m.
