Ottis Lloyd Graves died peacefully in his home on Thursday, Feb. 11, 2010. He was surrounded by loved ones throughout his battle with cancer and as he left this mortal life.
He was born Feb. 25, 1947, in Jamestown, Tenn., to James William Graves and Girtha Beula Geneva Mayes. In 1948, at the age of one, he and his family moved to Lovell. He was the oldest child of six, including sisters Jaoma, Linda Jean, Merida and Jamie Sue, and one brother, Jason, who lived only a few hours.
Ottis attended school in Lovell all his life where he enjoyed sports like football, wrestling and track. He graduated from Lovell High School in 1965 and attended college for 1½ years at Northwest Community College in Powell.
Ottis served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from January of 1967 to January of 1969 in the Central Atlantic States Mission. He served a total of nine years in the Wyoming Army National Guard and worked as a meter reader for Pacific Power for 31½ years.
Ottis was married and sealed to Karen Gladys Savage for time and all eternity on Aug. 29, 1969, in the Idaho Falls Temple. One of the most important parts of Ottis' life was his family. He and Karen were blessed with six wonderful children and six equally wonderful sons- and daughters-in-law, including Tyrel and Erin Graves, Aryn and Josh Tippetts, Justin and Wendi Graves, Carlee and Matt Piippo, Tomy and Curt Pluhar and Taylor and Kristi Graves. Some of the sweetest joys for Ottis and Karen came through experiences with their 18 precious grandchildren, Chase, Ethan, Hunter, Kristen, Tanner, Corbin, Kade, Aden, Bailey, Paige, Kaiya, Katia, Reece, Jaxon, Jace, Rebekah, Davin and Garrett.
Funeral services were held on Monday, Feb. 15, 2010, at the LDS Church. Burial was in the Lovell Cemetery.
