OBITUARY

PIONEER ALBERTA CONTRACTOR DIES

Edgerton Green Greer, age 82, of 535 Thirteenth avenue east, a resident of Calgary district since 1882, died Sunday in hospital following a brief illness.

When Mr. Greer was 23, he left his home of Port Elgin, Ontario, to come west and help in the construction work of the railroad through Calgary.

In the Riel Rebellion of 1885, Mr. Greer was with the troops on a supply wagon. He was a member of the Old Timer's Association of Alberta. For a number of years he was engaged as a road contractor.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. E. Tibbets and Mrs. J. Hamilton, both of Vancouver, and one son, George of Calgary.

Funeral services will be conducted at the Foster and Foster chapel Tuesday at 2 o'clock. Internment will be in the Queen's Park Cemetery.
================
His obituary failed to mention the fact that he was married to a woman who was recorded on their marriage record as "Mary Jane McLellan". Other records recorded her maiden name as McLennan. This marriage took place on Sep. 28, 1886, in Manse, Port Elgin, Ontario, Canada. She was born March 18, 1869, in Ontario, Canada and she died on July 25, 1938, in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The fact that she was not mentioned in his obituary and the fact that she died 3 years before he did in another province of Canada (British Columbia vs. Alberta) leads one to conclude that they were divorced at the time of their respective deaths in 1938 and 1941.
