Joseph and Mary settled in Lilly where Joseph worked as a coal miner, and had nine children: Joseph Gerald Kapustka (1922-2013), Thomas James Kapustka (1923-2002), Mary E. Kapustka-Crum (1925-2004), Vincent Kapustka (1927-), Phillip John Kapustka (1930-1070), John Kapustka (1931-1931), Edward C. Kapustka (1933-2009), Patrick Kapustka (1937-), and Michael Kapustka (1940-1944).
Joseph was a veteran of World War I, PFC Troop H, 2nd Calvalry.
He died on Feb 12, 1952 in Johnstown, Cambria County, Pennsylvania, and is buried with his wife in St. Bartholomew Cemetery.
