Minerva Elizabeth "Betty" Moore was the daughter of William Martin and Susan Rose (Greer) Moore.
She first married Joseph Dudley on Sept. 2, 1886 in Lamar County, Texas. The events around Joseph Dudley's death is unknown. Sometime soon after they were married, he left home to find work and when he did not return after a considerable amount of time, Minerva went looking for him. She found that he had died and the family he was staying with didn't know who to contact.
After Joseph's death in about 1887, she married James Dennis Johnson on Nov. 4, 1888 in Lamar County, Texas. James and Minerva were divorce sometime after 1910.
She then married Allen A. Godwin sometime between 1917 and 1920. One child, Joseph Clayborn Dudley, was born to Minerva and Joseph Dudley in 1887.
During her marriage to James Johnson, there were five children born: Maude Ethel (Stiager) 1889-1930, Tennie Ssee (Merrell) 1891-1980, Cora Althea (Vowell), 1894 - ____, Jesse Dennis (1896-1900), Neta May (McAlexander) 1898-1930.
Minerva remained married to Allen A. Godwin until his death in 1928. She was known to her grandchilden as Grandma Godwin. Her grand-daughter told the story of when in about 1944 or 45, Grandma Godwin decided she wanted to get married for the fourth time! She had been writing to a man who lived in California and was determained to go to California and marry this man. When she went to the bus station in Water Valley or Sterling City, the bus station attendent wouldn't let her get on the bus. He said she was too old -- she was 75 years of age.
