Margaret Dean Austin, age 78, of Nashville, Tenn., died Oct. 30, 2010. Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with Frank Jones of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow in Memory Hill Gardens with Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, directing. Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gene Austin; her parents, Herrin and Rosa Walters; and her siblings, Forrest Walters, Ethyl Lois Franks, Pearl Rosenbaur, Woodrow Walters, Dewey Walters, and Howard Walters.

Survivors include her daughter, Carole Dean Reyes of Nashville, Tenn.; her son, Dr. Larry S. Dean, M.D. of Seattle, Wash.; her former husband, Jack L. Dean of Simpsonville, S.C.; her stepson, Barry Austin of Houston, Texas; her sister, Dorothy Szymanski of Gulfport, Miss.; her brother, Charlie Walters of Saucier, Miss.; her grandchildren, Shawn White of Oneonta, Shanna Gamble of Tuscaloosa, Andrea Jones of Lake View, Robin Dean, Esq. of Seattle, Wash., William Dean of Seattle, Wash., and Emma Dean of Atlanta, Ga.; and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Austin was born November 29, 1931, in Sumrall, Miss. She resided in Tuscaloosa most of her adult life and recently moved to Nashville, Tenn. to be closer to her daughter. One of nine children of Rosa and Herrin Walters, she grew up on a farm in southern Mississippi, but she never was much of a farm girl. She moved to Alabama in 1952, where she raised her family, participated in the community, and was an avid Alabama fan. She was a longtime member of Calvary Baptist Church. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.

Pallbearers will be Larry S. Dean, M.D., Barry Austin, William Dean, Shawn White, Sixto Reyes, and David Szymanski.

Honorary pallbearers are members of Calvary Baptist Church and the staff of Sycamores Terrace.
