Sara Artie Stevens was born on May 4, 1929, at Lockhart, South Carolina, the daughter of Lewis A. and Evelyn Gibson Propes. She graduated from Lockhart High School. A resident of Ashland since 1948, she was a bookkeeper for Stevens Appliance Company, Ashland. She belonged to the First Baptist Church, Ashland. On May 24, 1946 she married Joe Stevens in Sedan, Kansas. Survivors Artie are her husband Joe, two sons, John and Joe of Ashland; three daughters, Cyndi Cox of Lamar, Missouri, Judy Bailey of Montezuma, Kansas and Laura Safar of Ashland; 16 grandchildren; and a great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents and a great granddaughter.
