WILLIAMSBURG - On Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2007, our loving and devoted, Doris Mae Street Allison, heard the Master's call while in the Sentara Williamsburg Regional Medical Center; it was here that she surrendered to His will to make Heaven her home.
She was born April 11, 1932, the only child of Lillie Mae Powell and the late Robert Jones, in Bessemer, Ala.
She was baptized at an early age and became a faithful and dedicated member of Zion Baptist Church, Lightfoot, Va. She loved her church and her church family, where she worked diligently as a Missionary and cheerfully rendered her services on the Usher Board, until her health began to decline.
She graduated from Huntington High School in Newport News, Va. She retired from the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation after many years of service. She also was a member of Colonial Temple No. 380, Daughters of Elks.
Doris was loved, respected and adored by her family and many friends, especially by her friend, Christine Wade. She was faithful and devoted to her family and always sought to render her love for their happiness and well-being. The life she lived was like a beacon light that still shines even after her death. Her beautiful smile and loving spirit touched many lives and her memories will always be with us. She loved to dress and was always in with the styles. Her tireless efforts will be missed, for not many people held the level of dedication and drive that she had.
In addition to her father, Robert Jones, and her stepfather, Samuel R. Powell, Doris was predeceased by two husbands, Harry T. Street and Roscoe Allison, and her brother, Charles 'Pete' Powell.
She leaves to cherish and remember her well-spent life of 75 years, her mother, Lillie Mae Powell; her children, Harry P. Street of Williamsburg, Dwight Street (Shelly) of Ohio, Thomas Street (Jeanette) of Germany, Ronald Street (Delma) and Mark Allison, both of Williamsburg; her brother, Rufus Banks (Christine) of Roanoke; her adopted sister, Thelma Wade of Williamsburg; her 10 loving grandchildren; her nieces and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends amassed during a lifetime filled with laughter, sorrow, sharing and love.
A funeral service, celebrating the life she lived, will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, in Zion Baptist Church, Lightfoot, with the Rev. Horace Suber officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Family and friends will assemble by noon Saturday at 104 Brook Haven Drive. Mrs. Allison may be viewed from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 30, in the funeral home.
