Thomas Hurston Dotson was the son of William Edward "Ed" (b. 1890-1945) of Wise County, Virginia, and Ida (Cook) Dotson (1900-1972) of Pike County, Kentucky. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Benton Dotson (1859-1945) and Mary Alice "Ally" Freeman (1864-1899) both of Wise County, Virginia. Thomas' maternal grandparents were Samuel L. Johnson "Johnce" Cook (1870-1929) of Letcher County, Kentucky, and Sarah P. (Mullins) Cook (1880-1937) of Pike County, Kentucky.

I've researched various area cemeteries (Stiltner Cemetery on Beefhide Creek, near Myra in Pike County; Wright Cemetery in Beefhide, Potter Cemetery in Jenkins, McRoberts Cemetery in McRoberts, all in Letcher County; and Tackett Cemetery in Melvin, Floyd County Kentucky) without success.
