Thomas Hurston Dotson was the son of William Edward "Ed" (b. 1890-1945) of Wise County, Virginia, and Ida (Cook) Dotson (1900-1972) of Pike County, Kentucky. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Benton Dotson (1859-1945) and Mary Alice "Ally" Freeman (1864-1899) both of Wise County, Virginia. Thomas' maternal grandparents were Samuel L. Johnson "Johnce" Cook (1870-1929) of Letcher County, Kentucky, and Sarah P. (Mullins) Cook (1880-1937) of Pike County, Kentucky.

Thomas' siblings are:

1-Irene D Dotson (1916 – 1991) m. Arlie Davis

2-Houston Dotson (1917 – 1980) m. Willie Belle White; m. Mary E ---. Served in WWII, POW. Served in Korean War.

3-Bonnie I Dotson (1922 – ?)

4-Sarah Evalin Dotson (1924 – ?)

5-Edward Lynn "Lyn" Dotson (1925 – 1972) m. Gladys Johnson (2 ch.)

6-Norma Faye "Faye" Dotson (1932 – 2014) m. 1st Joseph Brewer (2 ch.); m. John W Walls (1 ch.)

7-Hobart Douglas Dotson (1934 – 1982)

In 1939, age 20, he married Bonnie Mae Mullins, 2nd daughter of Thomas Marion "Babe" Mullins, Sr. (1885-1964) and Mary Ethel Hall Mullins (1896-1967). Bonnie Mae had one child whom Thomas adopted:

1-Arlie Hugh Gordon Dotson (1936-2004) m. 1st Helen Arlyne Dixon; m. 2nd Connie Davis

Together Thomas & Bonnie Mae had two daughters:

1-Dolores Dawn Dotson (1940 - ) m. 1st Charles Louis Blackgrave (1926-2007), 3 ch.; m. 2nd Clarence Loren Petty, Sr. (1933-2007), a widower with 3 ch. and together they had 2 ch.

2-Tommie Lou Dotson (1942 - ) m. Vernon Thomas "Tom" Guernsey (1937 - ), 3 ch.

Sadly, Thomas died young, before his 22nd birthday, in the coal mine in which he worked, leaving Bonnie Mae a widow with three young children. She went on to marry again, to Arthur Joseph "Red" Morrison, with whom she had:

1-Vincent Aaron Morrison (1948 - ) m. Ruth Ellen Allen

2-Arthur Joseph Morrison, Jr. (1951 - ) m. Sherry Lynn Guernsey (2 ch.)

It is unclear where Thomas is buried. He died at the Jenkins Hospital, Jenkins, Letcher County, KY, and according to George M. McCoy, the funeral director on Thomas' death certificate, the body 'burial, cremation or removal' is Lionilli (Pike County), KY. Lionilli is near Beefhide, but there is no cemetery in Lionilli. I've researched various area cemeteries (Stiltner Cemetery on Beefhide Creek, near Myra in Pike County; Wright Cemetery in Beefhide, Potter Cemetery in Jenkins, McRoberts Cemetery in McRoberts, all in Letcher County; and Tackett Cemetery in Melvin, Floyd County Kentucky) without success. It is likely that he is buried on family property, such as on his parents land. {11.16.2015}
