Owen LaVelle Cluff left this world the morning of June 12, 2010 to be reunited with Ila, his beloved wife and partner. Theirs was a true love story; separation from her was his greatest trial. Our sadness is eclipsed by their great joy, and knowing this makes it easier to accept his leaving. Dad was born to Owen Houtz Cluff and Blanche Davies on July 18, 1923 in Lake Point, Utah and, with brief exceptions, he lived his entire life there. He loved his country and served honorably in the Navy. A graduate of both the University of Utah and BYU, his career as an educator was exemplary. He and Ila married in the Salt Lake Temple on March 20, 1950 and began a life filled with love, service and faith. As a team they built his career, farmed and served three missions for the LDS Church — the first to the Goshute Indians in Ibapah, Utah, and following retirement to both Yugoslavia and Zimbabwe. They raised four grateful children: Deborah (Phil) Smart, Scott (Carol) Cluff, Connie (Jim) Willes and David (Susan) Cluff. Anything we are or may become we owe to our parents. Dad is also missed by 23 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren, as well as two adoring sisters he loved dearly Afton Harrop and Barbara Melis. He was preceded in death by his beloved Ila, his parents Owen and Blanche, sisters Eleanor Monsen and LaRue Miklovik, son-in-law Kenneth Sagers and granddaughters Heidi and Rebecca Cluff. Dad lived a humble, dedicated and steadfast life. With only one exception, no better man has ever lived. Viewing at Tate Mortuary in Tooele on June 16 from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral to be held in the Lake Point Ward chapel on June 17 at 11 a.m. with a viewing from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Interment in the Lake Point cemetery.
