Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church for Mathilda 'Tillie' Asfeld, 88, who died Monday at St. Cloud Hospital.
Burial will be in the parish cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 8 a.m. until services Thursday at Ertl Funeral Home, Watkins. Senior citizens will pray the rosary at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home in Watkins followed by parish prayers at 7.
Mathilda Asfeld was born in St. Nicholas to Henry and Anna (Zimmerman) Schreifels. She married Michael Asfeld on Jan. 28, 1930, in St. Nicholas Catholic Church, St. Nicholas. The couple farmed near Watkins until their retirement in 1969. She was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and was active in the Council of Catholic Women. She also was a member of Watkins Senior Citizens.
Survivors include her children, Rose Mary Loch, Gene, Lou Ann Garding, and Art of Watkins, Donald of Clarissa, Jeanette Linn of Crystal, Delores Nistler of South St. Paul, Linda Schoeben of Brooklyn Park, and Sandra Lang of Champlin; 29 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; sisters and brother, Katherine Schug of Rockville, Hildegard Reitter of Cold Spring, and Henry of St. Cloud.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1987; grandson, Daniel Nistler; and brothers and sisters, Tony, Steve, Ben, Frances Flaschenreim, Mary Reiter and Theresa Reiter.
