ZANESVILLE - Virginia McFarland Axline, 92, of Zanesville, died at 7:10 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2006, at the Beckett House, New Concord.
She was born June 8, 1913, in Zanesville, the daughter of the late George Richard and Bessie Slack McFarland. Virginia was a retired school teacher, having taught many years at Pioneer Elementary School. She attended the Brighton Presbyterian Church and the Grace United Methodist Church.
Surviving are her husband, Dr. Wilson T. Axline of the home; a son, Mark Bonifield of Zanesville; grandchildren, Jill Bonifield of Atlanta, Ga., Anne Leist of Lancaster, Abey Bonifield of Zanesville, and Richard "Rick" Bonifield of Blue Rock; stepchildren, Robin Scanlon of Washington, D.C., W. Andrew Axline of Quebec, Ontario, and Kristine Swedlund of Napierville, Ill.; nieces, Isabel Hull of Ithaca, N.Y. and Martha Lane of Tennessee; a nephew, David Robinson of Oregon; and a sister-in-law Betty Robinson of Zanesville.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Richard D. Bonifield; and a sister, Isabel Hull.
No calling hours will be observed.
Internment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
At the request of the family, memorial contributions may be made to Genesis Hospice and Palliative Care, Morrison House.
