Elijah Coffey was born in 1788 in Wilkes CO, North Carolina. He was the forth son of Thomas Coffey and Sally Fields. He served in the North Carolina Militia in the War of 1812. In 1817, he married Mary Polly Hull (or Hill) in Rabun County, Georgia. She was born about 1790 Wilkes County, North Carolina and died in 1865. In about 1839, they migrated to the little Betties Creek area of Rabun County near Clayton, Georgia where their seven children were born. Elijah died on June 23, 1864 in Forsyth CO, Georgia and is buried in the cemetery of Concord Baptist Church located near Cumming, Georgia. He was one of the first deacons of this church.

Minerva Coffey (married to John Coffey),
Starling Timothy Coffey (married to Nancy Tyler Cannon. Changed his name to Coffee.

Elvira Coffey (married to Henry Wolfe),
Newton Murray Coffey (married to Sarah Jane Harvey)
