Jones Adley, White Mountain Apache tribal elder, and lifelong member of the Seven Mile community died Sunday, Oct. 29, 2006.
He was a member of the Doole clan and born into the paternal clan of dischiidn. He was born June 3, 1928 at Fort Huachuca. His first job was becoming a police officer when horses were used to patrol the reservation. He also worked as a game warden for several years with the WMA Tribal Game and Fish Department. He then worked as a painter/carpenter for the HUD Housing maintenance department. His last employment was with the Fort Apache Timber Company where he retired in 1990. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking. He constructed his own home which has lasted for over 60 years and still a beautiful home for the family to enjoy.
He served as the Seven Mile Community President for many years and sponsored the annual fishing derby. He traveled many miles playing baseball with the Seven Mile team. He continued his love for the sport of baseball and later made a youth baseball team named Seven Mile Wahoo's.
He enjoyed family gatherings and for many years he was a rodeo announcer. Fans and friends enjoyed his humorous jokes. He was a man of peace and was humble in prayers. He was loved by his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his spouse of 60 years, Geraldine Johnson Adley; daughters, Bernadette Adley-SantaMaria, Maria (Randy) Classay Sr., Karen Adley (Edison) Way, DeeDee (Tony) Mailboy, Sandra Velasquez and Corrine Adley-Zospah; sisters, Neva Adley and Mayhome Rolland; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Nettie Chowbig Adley of Eastfork and Joe Adley of San Carlos. He was also preceded by sons, Jones Adley Jr., Ricardo Adley; Grandson: Salio Adley; one sister and several brothers.
