Marjorie (Woodford) Wills, 71, of Avon, passed away peacefully Tuesday, (April 12, 2011) at her home. Born in Hartford, May 22, 1939, daughter of the late Chester Randolph and Evelyn (Smith) Woodford, she resided in Avon all her life.

Prior to retiring, Marge was a Dispatcher for the Avon Police Department from July 1989-August 2002. She was a veteran member of the Avon Fire Department, having served from January 1984- 2011. During her 27 years of service, Marge also served on the Fire Police from 1984-1986. She was a member of the Avon Lions Club and a longtime member of the Avon Congregational Church. Marge had a passion for needlepoint and making quilts, gifting them to family and friends as well as making ones that marked special occasions.

Marge is survived by her children, Brenda Tonkin-Rider of Menominee, MI; Sendi Gardner of Orange, TX; Sam Wills of Avon; her sister, Priscilla (Woodford) "Duffy" Wheeler and her husband Norman of Southport, NC, her grandchildren, Adam, Ashley, David and Ian, her great- grandchildren, Braiden, Jayden, Leah, Ryley, her nieces Siri (Torland) Nelson of Lakeport, CA, and Sally (Wheeler) Wallace of Atlanta, GA, and nephews, Kirk Wheeler of Essexville, MI; Scott Wheeler of Atlanta, GA; Randy Wheeler of Topeka, KS.

Funeral Services will be held Saturday (May 14) at 2 p.m. in Avon Congregational Church, 6 West Main St., Avon with Rev. Jon Widing officiating. Burial with Police and Fire Department honors will be in the family plot at Evergreen Cemetery, Avon. There are no calling hours.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Avon Police Association, 60 West Main St., Avon, CT 06001, the Avon Volunteer Fire Department, 25 Darling Drive, Avon, CT 06001, or the Avon Lions Club, P.O. Box 944, Avon, CT 06001. Arrangements are being handled by The Ahern Funeral Homes, Inc.
