WACO - Herman Allen, 82, a retired systems operator, died Friday, October 12, 2001, at a local hospital. Funeral: 10 a.m. Monday at Connally Compton Funeral Directors Chapel. The Rev. Paul G. Smith, officiating. Burial: Rough Creek Cemetery in Granbury. Visitation: The family will receive friends 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. There will also be a visitation 2 to 3 p.m. Monday at Wiley Funeral Home in Granbury. Honorary pallbearers: Billy Sanders, Boots Baker, Herb Mayfield, Sonny Elza, Bob Menefee and Gene Medlin.
Herman Allen was born January 30, 1919, in Tolar to Thomas Wilburn and Crickett Willie Ingram Allen. After serving as a staff sergeant during World War II, he married Mary Barton on March 16, 1946. He was a systems operator for Brazos Electric Power Cooperative Inc. for more than 35 years. He retired in 1982. Herman was also a deacon at North Waco Baptist Church.
Survivors: Wife, Mary B. Allen of Waco; brother, Thomas :Jack" Allen of Lubbock; sister, Nawasa Sallee of San Antonio; two nieces, three nephews, three grandnieces and two grandnephews.
