ADAMS, Albert Arthur - 69, Lower Five Islands, Cumberland Co., formerly of Taunton, Ma., died Thursday, December 5, 2002, at his home after a brief illness. Born in Lower Five Islands on February 1, 1933, he was a son of the late James Garfield and Cora Electa (Webb) Adams. After working as a clam digger and logger, he and his new bride moved to Toronto in 1953 where he worked as a machinist for a few years. In 1963, the growing young family emigrated to Taunton, Massachusetts where Albert began working as a carpenter, a trade he had learned from his father, a ship builder in Nova Scotia. He started a family business, A.A. Adams & Sons specializing in residential construction and remodeling. His work can be seen in various locations in Massachusetts and Rhode Island including Taunton, Nantucket, Martha's Vineyard, Newton, Wellesley, Brookline, Jamestown and Newport. He enjoyed a wide range of interests, such as hunting, fishing, scuba diving, and playing bagpipes. His interest in learning about his Scottish roots (Clan Gordon) led him to take up the bagpipes as an adult. He marched in parades with Old Scotia Pipes and Drums. He was a founding member of the Knights of Columbus at Holy Family Parish in East Taunton, Ma. Many people from the Taunton area will remember him for his hospitality and eagerness to share his Nova Scotia home. He will be remembered most for his warmth, his love for his family and his home in Lower Five Islands. He is survived by his wife, the former Clare A. Cruickshank; daughters, Anna Boivin, Tiverton, R.I.; Clare Elaine and her husband Ron Levesque, Cumberland, R.I.; Nancy and her husband Rick Almeida, Taunton; sons, Albert A. Adams and his wife Karen, Ashland, Ma.; Robert B. Adams and his wife Lisa, Taunton; sisters, Annie Cruickshank, Moose River; Eva and her husband Diarmuid Swan, Toronto; brother, John Adams and his wife Bessie, Lower Five Islands. He will be remembered as ""Papa"" by his 11 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters, Mary, Ethel, and Julia; brothers, Frank, Banford, Robert, Charles and Fraser. Visitation will be 1-9 p.m. at his home in Lower Five Islands on Sunday, December 8. A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, December 9, at 11 a.m. in St. Brigid's Church, Parrsboro, Father Gaetan Banyog-enne officiating. Burial will follow in Five Islands Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit of South Cumberland Community Care Centre, Parrsboro. Arrangements entrusted to Smith's Funeral Home, Parrsboro.
