John Eagan was an American Soldier during the American Civil War of 1861 to 1865.
He enlisted on September 30th, 1863, at New York City, New York, for three years service at the age of 28 as a Veteran Volunteer per general Orders No. 191, Adjutant Generals Office, War Department, Washington, D.C., dated June 25th, 1863, and was mustered into service as a Private in Company C of the 17th New York Veteran Volunteer Infantry Regiment on October 6th, 1863, at Camp Sprague, Staten Island, New York. He served with the regiment through its campaigns in Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, and Georgia.
He was wounded in action on September 1st, 1864, at the Battle of Jonesboro, Georgia, and taken to the Second Division, 14th Army Corps, field hospital where he died of wounds on September 18th, 1864.
