George Ervin, Jr., 76, of Benton Harbor made his transition to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2015 at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph, MI.

Services celebrating his life will be held at 1 PM on Thursday, Sept 24, at the Fairplain Chapel of Florin Funeral Service in Benton Harbor. The visitation will begin at Noon on Thursday at the Fairplain Chapel. Burial will be at Fort Custer National Cemetery on Friday. Please share memories, messages or photos at www.florin.net.

George was born on January 25, 1939 in Benton Harbor, MI to the late George, Sr. and Alice Ervin. He was the only boy out of ten children. George was baptized at an early age at the Union Memorial AME Church. He went to Bard School and Benton Harbor High School until he was drafted into the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He received an honorable discharge after his years of service with the Army. He retired from the Benton Harbor Area Schools with more than 30 years of service. George was a private individual who enjoyed listening to jazz music and playing solitaire.

He leaves to cherish his memories: a son, George (Cheryl) Ervin, III of Fort Myers, FL; five sisters, Janice BeLue of Boynton Beach, FL, Aldene Gray of Tucson, AZ, Lola Rockette of Denver, CO, Lillian Rodgers of Houston, TX, and Ida Yarbrough of Cordova, TN; three grandchildren, Na’Imah, Trystan and Thai-Lyn of Fort Myers, FL; niece and caregiver, Pamela (Earl) Head of Benton Harbor; and a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother and father and four sisters, Marjorie Hickman, Edra White, Earlola Richmond and Ellen Ervin.
