David J. Bratton passed away Saturday, March 13, 2010, in Brady, at the age of 85. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 15 at Heritage Funeral Home Chapel. David was born in the old Brady Hospital, Nov. 26, 1924, to Lewis J. and Florence Lawler Bratton. He graduated from Rochelle High School in 1942 and attended John Tarleton College. When David was in his youth, he went with his dad every day so he could help him. At the age of 19, David took the responsibility of the ranch operations, because his dad was physically unable. He married Ouita Hampton Oct. 25, 1947 and they celebrated 62 years of marriage in October 2009. In his adult years, David was a member of the Texas Sheep and Goat Association, serving as district chairman, as chairman of the lamb committee and delegate to the American Sheep Producers Council and the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association. Locally, he served as a director of the Soil Conservation service committee, ASC member and past president of the livestock committee promoting FFA and 4-H programs; past president of the McCulloch Predatory Association; past president of Lohn Valley Protective Association and the McCulloch County Tax Payers Association. He enjoyed working with other members of these organizations. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Brady.

Survivors include his wife, Ouita; three sons, Lewis Bratton, Don Bratton and wife, Kitty, Bill Bratton and wife, Bette; a daughter, Mitze Angly and husband, Trey; five granddaughters, Kimbra Hobbs and husband, Michael, Amanda Chacon and husband, Tony, Brayla Roberts and husband, Patrick, Brezin Bratton and Louisa Angly; seven grandsons, Travis Bratton, Bronco Bratton, Reese Angly, David Angly, Eli Bratton, Will Bratton and Ben Bratton; nine great-grandchildren and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Laurissa Rawlings, a brother-in-law, Wayne Rawlings and a nephew, Steve Rawlings. Pallbearers were Johnny Wayne Jones of Brady, Dee Jeffers of Roswell, N.M., Lovell Kuykendall of Cherokee, Caddo Sanders of San Marcos, Alex Fambro of Stephenville, Mike Caldwell of Lohn, Bill Shaw and Joe Shaw, both of Brownwood. Special music was provided by Mike Finlay of Fife. Services were under the direction of Heritage Funeral Home.
