John Tannahill was a weaver in Paisley, Scotland. He came to Canada in 1832. John Sr. claimed land on the Trout River Godmanchester 4th range lot 29 in the present Huntingdon County in Quebec. He was married to Janet Sharp. They had nine children; John James, Robert (died young), Robert, Hugh, George, William, David Wilson, and Isabel.
