Note: The DC posted at the right is for Catherine MORAN COTTER's daughter and namesake, Catherine A. COTTER, who was known to family and friends as Kate or Katie. Her DC identifies Catherine MORAN and Edward COTTER as her parents. It is posted here as a confirming source of her mother's maiden name, MORAN. The informant for that DC was Edward Francis COTTER who was Catherine MORAN's and Edward COTTER's grandson through their son, James H. COTTER.

Catherine MORAN immigrated to America in 1850. In the abstracts of the Philadelphia Passenger Lists, 1800-1948, there is the following record.

Name: Catherine Moran
Birthdate: abt 1830

Port of Departure: Liverpool, England
[note: probably boarded the ship at Cobh, County Cork, Ireland]
Arrival Date: 9 Jul 1850
Port of Arrival: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

Edward/Edmund COTTER immigrated to America from Ireland, probably from County Cork, between 1850 and 1853.

In the Connecticut, Town Marriage Records, pre-1870 (Barbour Collection) is a record of Catherine's marriage on 01 Jan 1853 in Middletown, Connecticut, to Edward COTTER. She was about 23 years old, and he was about 25.

Edward became a naturalized citizen on 02 Apr 1855. At the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA); Washington, D.C.; in the Index to New England Naturalization Petitions, 1791-1906 (M1299); Microfilm Serial: M1299; Microfilm Roll: 6 is the following record as abstracted.

Catherine and Edward had seven known children. The first of those, Bartholomew, was born in Connecticut. The others were all born in eastern Pennsylvania where their family had relocated between 1854-1856.

The names and approximate birth years of those children are shown below.
