BACHMAN Lillian Bassick Bachman, born October 6, 1915 in Bridgeport, to Lillian Cordelia Wheeler and Frederick Cleveland Bassick, died peacefully in Wilmington, Del., on Friday, September 2, 2005. Married Manning Phillips Exton in 1944, she was the devoted mother of three children and four grandchildren. Married William S. Bachman in 1981. She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Exton von Oeyen of Bloomfield Hills, Mich.; her son, William Bassick Exton of Maynooth, Ontario; as well as grandchildren, Cordelia and Sarah Carter and Schuyler and Rebecca von Oeyen. Her husbands and daughter, Cordelia Wheeler Carter, preceded her in death. Lillian graduated from Emma Willard School and Vassar College in Child Psychology. Always an active member of her community, she was a sustaining member of the Junior League of Wilmington, the Colonial Dames and a leader of Family Services Woodfield/Sterling Widow's Home board of directors. She was a member of the Country Club of Fairfield, the Pequot Yacht Club and Greenville (Delaware) Country Club. Most of all, she will be remembered as a gracious and loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend. A memorial service at Trinity Episcopal Church in Southport, where she served on the altar guild for many years, will take place at a later date.
