Ardyce E. Anderson was born on March 12, 1913, the son of Alex and Anna (Larson) Anderson in Deerwood, Minnesota. The family moved to Alexandria in the summer of 1915 where Alex worked as a brick layer and contractor and also endulged in the hobby of growing flowers.
The land in East Alexandria was cleared and a house was built where six brothers and two sisters were raised. Anderson Florist has been in business for 72 years. They have brought to the community artistic beauty for all occasions. After Ardyce graduated from high school he decided to be part of his father's business. Ardyce married Lorraine Kiehne on July 1, 1940, and they had a daughter, Diane and son, David. In the 1950's Ardyce and Lorraine purchased the florist business from his father. since that time he has given 56 years to the business of flowers and brought beauty and joy into countless lives.
Ardyce was the first member taken into the Alexandria Rotary Club after its charter. He held the office of secretary for several years. Ardyce was also the Elks Club Charter member, a member of the Masonic Order, and a member of the Eagles. He also served on the Park Board and the Kinkead Cemetery Association Board. Ardyce was also active on the Florist Association and served as its secretary.
Ardyce died October 9, 1987, at his home at the age of 74 years. He was a special person who left a flame burning, for him, in each and everyone of our hearts. His kindness and generosity has brought much happiness and fond memories for each of us to cherish. We always remember his smile and the look of pride as we strolled through the greenhouses looking at all the displays of beautiful flowers. He will long be remembered as a person with determination to continue the floral profession which was started by his father in 1915.
Ardyce is survived by his wife Lorraine, daughter, Diane Glynn and son David Anderson both of Minneapolis. Also surviving are eight grandchildren, brothers Ernest of Manchester, TN; Lyle of Tucson, AZ; Clifford of Tulsa, OK; and Alex Jr. of Sauk Centre, sisters Edith Olson of Great Falls, MT; and Edna Turner of Longmont, CO. Ardyce was preceded in death by his parents and brother Herman.
Funeral services were October 12, 1987 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Alexandria, Minnesota, with Rev. James Winters officiating. Interment was in Kinkead Cemetery, Alexandria, Minnesota. Pallbearers were Joel Albertson, Donavon Brockopp, Elton Johnson, George Mork, Tomford Sletto and Darell Biksen. Honorary pallbearers were Karl Kolstad, M.W. (Pete) Bursch, Sidney Carlson, James Boyd, Murrae Freng, William Halstead, Ted Whalen and Len Busch. Arrangements with Anderson Funeral Home.
