GM2 Stephen Joseph Welden is the son of Mary Welden and Francis Hacker. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his daughter Stephanie, a son, Patrick, and his brothers, Michael and William. He was raised in Plano, TX and moved to Yukon, OK in 1981, where he graduated from the local high school in 1983. He attended El Reno Junior College and the University of Oklahoma. He enjoyed building model planes and ships, photorgraphy, hunting, fishing, and country and western music. He joined the Navy in January, 1985. He was killed in the explosion of gun turret #2 on the USS Iowa, during training maneuvers in the Atlantic Ocean off of Puerto Rico. A Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Patricks Catholic Church.
