Born in Miller County, Missouri to Robert and Mary Castleman Reed, David was the third of at least eleven children raised on the family farm. David Crockett "Jack" Reed married the widowed Mrs. Elizabeth Catherine Stover King about 1876 at Little Elm, Texas.
Eliza and "Jack" Reed raised four children born to their union and two children from her marriage to Andrew J.King: Lee, Mart, Harve and Fannie Reed and Kit and Margaret King.
In 1895, he brought his family to Palo Pinto County and settled north of the Graford township on the Keechi River. He bought land from J.W. McConnell and built their house under a large elm tree, just south of a small hill, later to be known as Reed Hill. The land was sold after their death to Thomas Eubanks.
