She started across the plains on May, 1863 to prolong the life of her mother who raised 8 children. Mrs. Palmateer arrived at the mining town of Galena, Nevada on October first and left Galena for Oregon on the 10 day of July, 1864, arriving in Roseburg (sic), Oregon on the 1st day of November 1864 and she spent the winter there. On Jul y 1, 1865 she came to Albany where she worked in the harvest. On September 1st of that year she came over to Sandy Ridge where her father was the fifth homesteader on the Ridge.
