Mrs. John M. Ansorge
(Times Herald News Service)
Manning - Mrs. John M. Ansorge, 69, wife of Pastor Ansorge of Zion Lutheran Church, was buried in the Manning Cemetery Tuesday afternoon. It was one of the largest funerals in the history of Manning. Pallbearers were six elders of the church: Ed Knaack, John Weible Jr., Donald Beck, Vernon Ehlers, Eustace Lake, and Ross Graner.
More than 50 pastors attended the rites, held at the church at 2 p.m. Pastors G. B. Eschenbacher, Manning; Hugo Neiting, Ute; and Theodore Tews, Arcadia, were in charge. Professor Daenszer of Lidderdale was organist.
Mrs. Ansorge, who had been in failing health for five years, suffered a brain hemorrhage Oct. 26, when she was taken to St. Anthony Hospital in Carroll. She died Friday morning, Nov. 12, without regaining consciousness.
Gertrude Hulda Heinke, daughter of Pastor Friedrich and Isabella Heinke, was born Sept. 14, 1885 at Lacona, Iowa. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith at the age of three weeks. She was educated in the Lacona schools.
She married Pastor Ansorge of Manning on June 26, 1907 at Wiota, Iowa, where her father was pastor of the First Lutheran Church.
Mrs. Ansorge taught Sunday School for 40 years, and served as organist in the church for this same length of time, also directing the choir. She carried on this work until the Sunday before she became ill.
Rev. Ansorge observed his 50th anniversary as pastor of the Manning church Sept. 5.
Mrs. Ansorge is survived by her husband; four children, The Rev. Karl, Parker's Prairie, Minn; the Rev. Max, Spirit Lake; Luella, Omaha; and James, Des Moines; eight grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Minna Oldham of Melcher; and Mrs. Hulda Sandhorst, Atlantic. One son, Arthur, and four brothers preceded her in death.
