Confederate Civil War Soldier. He served with the 28th Tennessee Infantry as a Private in Company A. The regiment was also known as the 2nd Mountain Regiment of Tennessee Volunteers and were organized in September of 1861 at Camp Zollicoffer in Overton County, Tennessee. Andrews fought with his regiment at the Battle of Fishing Creek (also known as Mill Springs) on January 19, 1862. They were then sent to Corinth, Mississippi and fought at the Battle of Shiloh where Andrews was wounded and captured by the Union forces. He was sent upriver to Cincinnati, Ohio were he was held as a wounded prisoner-of-war in a military hospital at Camp Dennison. He died 12 weeks later and was buried nearby at Waldschmidt Cemetery. His grave was removed to Spring Grove Cemetery on July 4, 1869.
