Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday May 4, 2016, at Comanche Nation Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bill Foote officiating.
Burial will be in Little Washita Cemetery, Fletcher.
Truman was born Aug. 24, 1935, in Fletcher to Charles and Julia Connywerdy. He grew up and attended Fort Sill Indian School and later attended Haskell University in Lawrence, Kan., Southeastern University at Durant, and Southwestern University at Weatherford. He obtained his master's degree from Cameron University. He worked at Fort Sill Indian School as a recreation specialist and then worked for civil service at Fort Sill in the housing department. He received many certifications and awards during his tenure which include Department of the Army Certificate of Customer Service Excellence, Commendation for dedicated service in support of Desert Shield and Desert Storm and Commendation for Special Services during the remodel of Fort Sill's Self Service Supply Center allowing it to be fully operational during the work he did. He enjoyed spending time with family, hunting and fishing, was an avid OU and Thunder fan; he was very athletic in his youth playing all sports. He enjoyed cooking at powwows and family gatherings.
He is survived by his sons: David and wife Pat Connywerdy of the home; and Kevin and wife Kricket Connywerdy of Norman; sisters: Carlene Escoto, of Borger, Texas; Rena and Donald Dupoint of Carnegie; Rita Wahnee of Lawton; and Selma Herrera-Connywerdy; brother, Adrian and wife Teresa Connywerdy of Lawton; grandchildren: Teresa Sumka, Polly Connywerdy, Davianne Connywerdy, Michael Shane Johnson, Sage Connywerdy, Tasha Toppah, Ben Connywerdy, Angelyn Connywerdy, Sokobi Connywerdy and Thaumaroi Connywerdy; great-grandkids: Skyla Bullet, Joshua Bullet, Angel Bohay, Aurora Hubert, Enoch Little Hawk, Trenton Connywerdy, Tiara Toppah and Christopher Toppah.
He was preceded in death by: parents: Charles and Julia (Monoessy) Connywerdy; daughter, Cheryl Connywerdy; brothers: Tyler Wahnee, Amos Wahnee: sisters: Gladys Tehauno, Naomi Tehauno; wife, Ethel Subieta.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 3, 2016, at the funeral home.
