Max Dewayne Bechtold, 81, of rural Wabash, Indiana, died at 9:05 a.m. Thursday, December 1, 2011 at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born March 23, 1930 in Huntington County, Indiana, to William and Edith (Freshour) Bechtold.

Max married Norma Jean Cox at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Wabash, on June 30, 1954. He was a farmer and raised Chester White pigs. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of Asbury Country Church and the Wabash County Farm Bureau. He was a former member of the Wabash County 4-H Fair Board. Max loved spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed attending all of their school and sporting events.

He is survived by his wife, Norma Jean Bechtold; two children, Denise (Alan) Siepker, and Brian (Teresa) Bechtold; six grandchildren, Kyndra (Adam) Baldwin, Kimberly Siepker, Kelli Siepker, Cedric Bechtold, Devin Bechtold, and Makayla Bechtold, all of Wabash; eight brothers, Melvin Bechtold of Columbia City, Indiana, Billy Bechtold of Huntington, Indiana, Donald (Helen) Bechtold of North Manchester, Indiana, Richard (Ruth) Bechtold of Bippus, Indiana, Tom (Marcella) Bechtold of North Manchester, Jerry (Elsie) Bechtold of Goshen, Indiana, Larry (Diane) Bechtold of North Manchester, and Terry (Becky) Bechtold of Urbana, Indiana; two sisters, Betty McCune of Markle, Indiana, and Shelba (Dean) Neher of North Manchester; and his brother-in-law, Ed McColley of Roann, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his sister, Opal McColley, who died November 25, 2011.

Funeral services will be held at Asbury Country Church, corner of Dora Road and 200 E, Wabash, on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Mike Bullick officiating. Burial will be in Center Grove Cemetery, Lincolnville. Friends may call 2-7 p.m. Saturday at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, 1241 Manchester Avenue, Wabash, and one hour prior to service at the church.

Preferred memorial is Oncology Department at Wabash County Hospital or Asbury Country Church.
