John Hershey Brown, former judge of the Orphans Court in Carroll County died Wednesday at 2:45 a.m. at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Walter cook, at Warfieldsburg. Aged 79, he had been in declining health for several years.
Mr. Brown, a retired auctioneer, had formerly resided at Dennings. He was a son of the late Andrew J. and Sarah Peters Brown and was born in Frederick county, June 7, 1866. He was a member of St. James' Methodist church, near New Windsor, and also of the Jr. O.U.A.M. He served on the bench of the Orphans Court from 1935 to 1939.
Mr. Brown and his wife, the former Miss Ida Jones, celebrated their fifty-seventh wedding anniversary January 15. Surviving besides his widow and Mrs. Cook are the following children: Eddie Brown, Sykesville; Mrs. Archie Keefer, Jordan Retreat; Mrs. Roland Crawmer, Union Bridge; Mrs. Walter Smith, and Mrs. Arthur Heiderman, Baltimore; Theodore Brown, New Windsor; Mrs. Lawrence Haines, New Windsor. Twenty-eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren, two brothers, Andrew J. Brown, Thurston; Thurston Brown, Washington; and one sister, Mrs. John Davis, Dickerson, also survive.
