The body of William J. McDonald who met death in Argonne forest October 12, 1918 arrived in Sprague Saturday morning. Funeral services were conducted at the Community church at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon. Rev. Jonathan Edwards who was a pastor in Sprague when William was a boy here officiated. He was assisted by Rev. Clay E. Palmer.
Eight ex-service men acted as pallbearers and an escort of soldiers from Fort Wright were in attendance. A large gathering of friends were present to witness the last rites and pay their respects to the dead hero. The coffin was draped in a beautiful American flag and the floral tributes were many and likewise beautiful.
After the ceremonies at the church the procession led by the military escort proceeded to Lake View cemetery where the remains were interred. Rev. Edwards conducted closing services, the firing squad fired a three round salute over the grave and the bugler sounded taps.
