James Nelson Barton, 76, of Mountainburg, formerly of Cecil, passed away Sunday, Aug. 23, 2009, in Fort Smith. He was born July 9, 1933, in Cecil to Kyle Barton and Lila Wood. He was general manager for U.S. Contractors for 23 years and a member of the Northside Church of Christ in Alma; he also served in the Air Force. James was preceded in death by a daughter, Barbara Kay Barton, and his parents.
Service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2009, at Smith Mortuary Chapel with Grady Rice and Burl Young officiating and burial at Cecil Cemetery in Cecil under the direction of Smith Mortuary, Charleston.
Survivors are his wife, Deborah Barton of the home; three sons, Fred Barton of Lake Jackson, Texas, Michael Barton of Etna and Greg Barton of Austin, Texas; one stepson, Matthew DeGaugh of West Columbia, Texas; one brother, Charles Barton of Dardanelle; six grandchildren and one stepgrandchild.
Pallbearers will be Ellis Westbrooks, Ottie Talkington, Rick Freeman, Bob Barton, Lance Barton and Ron Moreton.
Honorary pallbearers will be Lane Ford and Kenneth Barton.
The family will visit with friends from 6 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Northside Church of Christ in Alma or the Cecil Cemetery Fund.
