Paul James Garza, age 40, a longtime resident of Tecolote, N.M., passed to his eternal rest on Sunday, April 6, 2008.
He was born in Las Vegas, N.M., on July 11, 1967, to Robert J. Garza and Mary Ann Vigil Garza.
He was united in marriage on June 6, 1987, in Tecolote to Annette Roybal.
He was employed at the West Las Vegas Schools as a Music Instructional Assistant. He enjoyed music, singing, playing and recording. He played with many bands. He played all instruments but specialized on the trumpet and saxophone.
He was preceded in death by his father: Robert J. Garza; grandfather: Geronimo Garza; paternal great-grandparents: Genaro and Lucia Garza; maternal great-grandparents: Esiquel and Serafina Martinez; cousins: David Hebel, Ramon, Armando and Larry Martinez; uncles: Ramon Elvires and Leo Martinez; aunt: Esther Posey.
He was survived by his beloved wife: Annette Garza; son: James Garza; daughter: Angelique Garza all of the family home in Tecolote; mother: Mary Ann Garza and brother: Preston Garza both from Tecolote, N.M.; nephews: Austin and Justin Garza and their mother Donna Lucero of Las Vegas, N.M.; paternal grandmother: Josephine Garza of Tecolote; maternal grandmother: Tillie Jordan of Las Vegas, N.M.; mother-in-law: Viola Pena of Tecolote; brother-in-law: Ellery Pena Jr. of Las Vegas, N.M.; numerous: aunts, uncles, cousins, other relatives, and many friends.
Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday morning at 11 a.m. at the Rogers Chapel, 600 Reynolds Ave., Las Vegas, N.M., with Pastors Tim Lucero, Lloyd Ortiz and James Vaughn officiating. Interment will follow at the Garza Family Cemetery in Tecolote, with the following serving as casket bearers: Preston Garza, Ellery Peña Jr., Anthony Quintana, Michael Nichols, Greg Hebel, Dion Hebel, Manuel Romero, and Bobby Madrid. Serving as honorary bearers: Jerry Garza, Tommy Garza, and La Juventud.
He will lie in state at the Rogers Chapel on Wednesday from 8:30am to 7 p.m. where family and friends may call.
