Resident of Alamo
Joe passed away on March 1, 2011 after a brief battle with cancer. Born and raised in San Francisco, he graduated at age 16 from Sacred Heart High School and joined the Merchant Marine during World War II, serving on ships in the Pacific theater. He met his future bride, Irene Baiocchi in their Bay View neighborhood and they married in 1949. Joe and Irene had three children and eventually settled in Alamo in 1965.
Joe had a long career as District Manager with United Parcel Service, retiring after 35 years. After retiring, Joe and Irene moved to Incline Village, Nevada for 14 years, eventually returning to Alamo.
Joe enjoyed traveling, living in Tahoe and vacationing in Maui. He could be found daily at Starbucks enjoying his coffee, discussing politics and current events. He especially loved spending time with his six grandchildren during family vacations and celebrations.
Joe is survived by Irene, his loving wife of 61 years, his children Janice Johnson, Denise (Ron) Frazier and John (Kathy) Marchetti, Jr. and his cherished grandchildren, Ken Johnson, Dan and Jill Frazier, Joseph, Jenelle and Jason Marchetti. Joe was predeceased by his sister, Elaine, and leaves behind a large extended family.
Friends and family are invited to attend a memorial service and reception on March 12th at 11am at the Mt. Diablo Unitarian Church, 55 Eckley Lane, Walnut Creek, CA.
