Edna Dolores Jackson Jun. 7th, 1914 - Feb. 1st, 2012 Edna, beloved daughter of Joseph & Wilhelmina Vaananen, transitioned at the age of 97. Edna lived through more than a third of our country's history. She was part of a generation that guided our society through troubles, growth, and into progress. Edna was born slightly after the eventful 1913 strike, she lived through the war to end all wars, the vote for women, the depression, the labor movement, World War II, McCarthyism, Korea, Vietnam, 9-11, and the current recession. Edna was married to Carl Jackson for over 50 years. She raised two sons and traveled to Argentina where the family lived for several years while Carl oversaw the building of a Ford factory. She trained professionally as a nurse and worked in nursing on and off over the years. When asked if she had any regrets, she could think of none. In the last year of her life she spoke repeatedly of the importance of kindness; she practiced this throughout her long life and was known as a person who never spoke ill of anyone. She spent her later years in the care of her younger son Lance in Orinda. She is survived by her sons Robert and Lance, her grandchildren Vittorio, Jason, Liisa and Chase, and her great-grandchildren Darius and Matilda Jackson. She was pre-deceased by her husband Carl Jackson in 1996 and her sister Ruth Jackson in 1995. A celebration of her life will be held March 31st at 10 am at the Mt. Diablo Unitarian Universalist Church in Walnut Creek. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Mt. Diablo Unitarian Universalist Church in the memory Edna Jackson.
