Birth: Feb. 1, 1870, England
Death: Sep. 2, 1944
Hertfordshire, England

Caricaturist. Born London, the son of a customs officer. Entered the office of a Chartered Accountant in 1887 but from 1890 worked full time as a humorous artist and caricaturist, contributing to many magazines and often using the pseudonym ‘The Snark'. A self-taught daughtsman, he developed a slick, animated and always up-to-date style which, with his very down-to-earth sense of humour, won him lasting popularity. Produced a quarterly, The Windmill, and from 1910 Starr Wood's Magazine. Lived in Hertfordshire, was an early member of the London Sketch Club and a close friend of James Thorpe, with whom he went on hiking expeditions.
