James A. was a well-known officer in the Civil War and served one of the longest terms of all Hendricks County soldiers. His first three children died as infants. The next son (Orville) lived to be 21 and the last child (Maggie) lived to be an adult. James and Priscilla divorced but both continued to live in Hendricks County. They are buried in Maple Hill Cemetery in Plainfield.
