Sally Elizabeth Baringer was born on June 9, 1936 in St. Peter, MN to George and Edna (Evert) Thayer. She grew up in rural Le Sueur County. After attending country school for 8 years, she attended high school in Le Center and Cleveland. She graduated from Mankato State Teachers' College in 1957 with a degree in Library Science and English. She taught in Butterfield, MN, No. Little Rock, AR, Garden City, MN, Rosemount, MN and Mankato, MN. In 1973, she received her Master's degree in Media at MSU. She retired from teaching in 1996 and immediately entered the Peace Corps, serving in the Republic of the Philippines for two years providing English language instruction to teachers in Cagayan Province in northern Luzon. As a member of First Christian Church, she chaired various committees and served as a deacon and elder. She volunteered at Tonto National Monument in AZ and with Friends of the Library Projects.
Sally was proud of her service in the Peace Corps as was her family. She felt it was her "Missionary Work". Sally was an enthusiastic traveler who achieved her goal of traveling to all 7 continents when she visited Antarctica in 2005. Sally loved books, especially a good mystery, crossword puzzles, cats and she played a mean game of Scrabble. Chocolate was also one of Sally's favorite things.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and Scott Krueger of North Mankato, MN; her granddaughter, Andrea Krueger; her sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Herb Weber of Elysian, MN; 2 nieces, Sally Schroer of Elysian, MN, Sandy (Nowell) Schroer of Janesville, MN; 1 nephew, Scott (Jenna) Weber of New Market, MN and special friends, Bobbe Bartholdi, Jo Chelberg and Rita Gomsrud. She was preceded in death by her parents and 1 niece, Shelly Satchell.
