James Ash died at his home southwest of town last Monday evening at 5 o'clock after an illness of nearly a year, from cancer of the stomach. The deceased was a man highly respected for his many sterling qualities, always a kind father and husband and a good neighbor. During the last few months he had suffered a great deal with the affliction, and death came as a relief.
Mr. James Ash was born June 24, 1840, at Mark, near Highbridge, England, and came to the United States in his 20th year locating on his homestead near Greenland the following year. In 1876 he was married to Ellen A. Taylor of Janesville, and their union was blessed with seven children: Mary E., Jennie A., Frank J., Sadie V., Annie J., Ray J., Eunice R., all of whom survive him, and have the sympathy of the community in their bereavement. He united with the M. E. church in the year of 1870. The funeral was conducted from Bethel church Wednesday, and the remains interred in Cedar Hill cemetery.
