The Woonsocket Patriot & RI State Register April 17, 1867--
In this town, 11th inst. Mr. David Holman Aldrich in his 24th year, only son, (and only child) of Mr. Stephen A. Aldrich.
Nothing but experience can estimate the grief that comes when such a young man goes from his earthly home, to return no more. He was all a parent's heart could ask; affectionate, cheerful, honest and faithful. Companion and assistant to his father, se seemed indispensable in the prosecution of business and not less so in the little home circle. Enjoying with great zest his association with the youthful, he had the rare faculty of cultivating intimacy with the aged. While the parents will miss and mourn him with more than ordinary painfullness, his venerable grandfather, now in his 88th year, will feel as though he, too, had lost a guileless child.
The funeral service was held in the Universalist church last Sabbath and the multitudes came, even beyond the capacity of the house, attested the general esteem in which he was held; and the large Bible-class, of which he was a member, covered his coffin with flowers as fit symbols of the the beautiful spirit which had departed from the body. But over all this cloud of sadness the Sun of Righteousness hath risen, and the assurance from the record is that he shall know no more pain or death. He rests "forever with the Lord." Cheer up, O sorrowing hearts. Your jewel is set in its immortal casket, to be given you again, when you shall go up higher, "and the days of your morning shall be ended".
