Louisa Maria Bergeron was the last surviving child of Henry and Gesina Brommer. The first two children, John and Herman, were born in Germany. Louisa, and later Peter, were born at Reardan at the farm before Reardan was officially incorporated in 1903. Born on May 18, 1900, Louisa was born a premature baby. A Monarch stove oven was her incubator and a shoebox her Isolette. The doctor told her mother that Louisa would not live long. Confounding the predictions, Louisa lived to the venerable age of 92 years and 28 days and died on June 15, 1992. Louisa was baptized on July 8, 1900, and confirmed on June 7, 1914, in the Emmanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church at Reardan. After completing both primary and secondary education in Reardan, Louisa worked at Raymer's Hardware and then in the Reardan Post Office where she met Albert Bergeron whom she married on May 15, 1929. After marriage the couple departed for Nome, Alaska, where they lived for three years. Albert prospected and engaged in the fur trade while Louisa worked in a local restaurant until the birth of Harvey and Clifford kept her fully occupied at home. Returning to Reardan, the couple purchased and leased farm land (the final purchase being completed in 1961) and farmed for 28 years until retiring to the old Brommer home in 1961. Louisa was a good homemaker known for baking excellent bread rolls for many community events. She loved to quilt have gone far and wide to serve the needy through Lutheran World Relief. Louisa often went fishing with her husband and on one occasion caught the biggest fish of the season at Balfour, Canada. Louisa was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, who died on April 5, 1976, and by her oldest son, Harvey, who died in 1979. Left to mourn the death of Louisa are: four children: Clifford of Reardan; Jimmie of Houston, Texas; Mary of Seattle; and Marlene of Lake George, New York. Fifteen grandchildren: Cathy, Linda and Robert children of Harvey; Greg, Jeff, Kristine and Melissa children of Clifford; James and Michelle children of Jimmie; Steve, Michael, Catherine Mary and Jimmy children of Mary; and Mark and Shelley children of Marlene. Ten great grandchildren: three born to Cathy and two to Linda, two to Steve, two to Catherine, and one to Shelley; and many other friends and relatives. Louisa expressed her Christian faith in a beautiful and simple way throughout her life and graced the Emmanuel congregation with her presence this last Sunday, June 14th. May our good Lord bless her memory to all who mourn her. [Funeral Program]
