Born Oct. 12, 1936, in Bloomington, Mary Lou was the daughter of Charles and Edna (Leenerman) Brucker. She married Roger W. Arends on June 17, 1956, in Sibley.
Mrs. Arends was a high school math teacher in Melvin for many years; she also taught accounting and was a certified public accountant, having passed her exam the first time. Over the years, she tutored many children who needed extra help and she did it with love. She received her master's degree in education from Illinois State Normal University in Normal. She loved to bake and knit. She filled in on the farm and did all of the bookwork. She also delivered Peace meals and enjoyed watching classic movies.
She is survived by her husband; two sons, Michael (Ann) Arends and Richard (Ione) Arends; six grandchildren; and a brother, Charles Brucker Jr.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
