Benjaphine, known as Benjie, was the daughter of Benjamin & Catherine (Hupp) Vance.

On July 26, 1860,
Benjaphine, shown as B. Vance, age 8, lived with her parents, Benj. & C. Vance, ages 44 & 42, in Lebanon, Cooper Co, MO. Her father was a brick mason & had a personal wealth of $500 & personal wealth of $100. Her father was born in OH & her mother in VA. All of the children except for the youngest, A.J, age 4 months (born in MO) was born in OH. Benjaphine's silblings were Henry, age 19; Lizzie, 17; & A.J.

It appears that her family moved to MO sometime after she was born, but was most definitely there in 1859.

In 1868, Benjie, about 16 years old, married a widow, James Penn Anthony, age 31. Their children were Henry Harrison, Bettie, Annie K., & May Fenton.

On June 21, 1880,
James & Benjie, ages 44 & 30, lived in Richland Township, Morgan Co, MO where he worked farming. Their children were Walter, age 17; Henry, 11; Batie, 9; Annie K., 7; & May, 1.

On June 23, 1900,
James & Benjaphine, ages 63 & 46, were renting a farm in Richland, Morgan Co, MO. They had been married 32 years; she had given birth to 3 children, all whom were living. Their daughter, May, 21, & her husband, Miles B. Dodson, 26, who had been married 1 year lived with them. Miles, a farmer, no doubt helped James on the farm.

Benjaphine died on Feb. 7, 1906.
