Herman S. Arnold, 86, 112 Starlight Drive, Elizabethton, peacefully passed into the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and is kneeling at his feet! Mr. Arnold was born in Carter County to the late Della Arnold Griffith. In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife of forty-eight years, Edith Arnold on April 11, 2002; a daughter, Sheila Ann Arnold; three brothers, Harry, Raymond and Paul Arnold and two sisters, Aretta Norris and Fronnia Davis.
Mr. Arnold was a retired employee of North American Rayon Corporation where he worked as an operator in the first unit Spinning Department. He was a member of West View Baptist Church in Kingsport and was presently attending Pleasant Beach Baptist Church, both of which he loved. Mr. Arnold served as a caretaker in the Sullivan Baptist Association Retreat Center and Pleasant Beach Baptist Church. He was a member of the American Legion Post #49 where he formerly served on the honor guard and a veteran of the United States Army having served his country in WWII. He also loved to collect coins.
He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and Mike Stout, Kingsport;
Valerie and Terry Vines, Elizabethton; Daphne and Chuck Schwartz, Nashville, TN; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Charity Arnold, Kingsport; three grandchildren and their spouses, Adam Stout, (Wendy), Kingsport; Ashley Pyles (Jody), Radford, VA; Jimmy Vines (Pam), Hampton; four great-grandchildren, Raegan Murphy, Kingsport; Garrett Vines and Gabe Vines, both of Hampton; Aryonna Henry, Kingsport; a sister, Eliza Jane Moore, Elizabethton; a very special niece, Viki Harrell, Elizabethton and a special friend and caretaker, Geneva Vines. Several other nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service for Mr. Arnold will be conducted on Wednesday, September 22, 2010 at 8:00 PM in the Tetrick Funeral Home, Chapel of Peace, Elizabethton with Rev. Bobby Stout and Pastor Mike Stout officiating. Music will be under the direction of Ashley Stout Pyles and her husband, Jody and the Pleasant Beach Quartet. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 6:00 – 8:00 PM Wednesday prior to the service and at the residence at other times.
The graveside service and interment will be conducted on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 11:00 AM in Happy Valley Memorial Park with Rev. Charlie Biggs officiating. Active pallbearers will be Robbie Arnold, Adam Stout, Jimmy Vines, Jody Pyles, Chuck Schwartz, Terry Vines, Jimmy Wiseman and Randall Vines. Honorary pallbearers will be members of West View Baptist Church and Pleasant Beach Baptist Church. Military honors will be accorded by American Legion Post #49. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 10:15 AM to go in procession to the cemetery.
