Daughter of Emmett and Adina (Reusser) Orr. Graduate of Rockford High School class of 1934. Married Kenneth W. Ahlstrand on Aug. 27, 1940, in Rockford. They were married for 62 years; he died Nov. 24, 2002. Member of Christ United Methodist Church, where she participated in the XYZ Club and Martha Circle. She also taught Sunday school for many years at St. John United Methodist Church. Ruth was a very kind and loving person who loved to write jingles and funnies for family and friends' birthdays along with entering them in contests like the Register Star's "Creative Captions." In the 1930s, Ruth sang on WROK radio and Rock River Barn Dance as one of the "Two Little Girls in Blue." Survivors include daughters, Suzanne (Phil) Jamison of Evansville, Ind., and Joanne Sutton of Rockton; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; numerous nieces and nephews; special niece and caregiver, Mary Lou Sterkeson. Predeceased by grandson, Scott; two brothers; and two sisters. Very special thanks to her devoted caregiver, Nova Martin. Funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 19, at Christ United Methodist Church, 4509 Highcrest Road, with Pastor Laura Barkley officiating. Burial in Willwood Burial Park. Visitation from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday at the church. Memorials may be made to Christ United Methodist Church or Northern Illinois Hospice. Arrangements by Olson Funeral & Cremation Services Ltd.
