Services for Mary Belle Chappell Foose, 91, Kansas City, Kan., will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Dengel & Son Mortuary, Ottawa. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery, Ottawa.

Mrs. Chappell Foose died Friday, April 10, 1998, at Kansas City Presbyterian Manor.

She was born Aug. 12, 1906, in New York, the daughter of William Pfeiffer and Margurite Fleischman.

A former Ottawa resident, Mrs. Chappell Foose had lived in Kansas City, Kan., since 1994. She lived in Ottawa from 1941 to 1964.

In 1916 she traveled on an ``Orphan Train'' from New York to the Central Plains, where she was adopted by C.S. and Lora Nation of Chanute.

She graduated from Chanute High School in 1926. In 1930 she graduated from Kansas State Teachers College in Pittsburg with a bachelor of science degree in education.

She owned and operated Chappell Cleaners in Ottawa from 1944 to 1964.

In 1964 she began a three-year stint as a house mother for Theta Tau fraternity at Kansas University.

She then served as house mother for Delta Tau Delta fraternities at Baker University for seven years and Kansas State University for 10 years, retiring in 1984.

Following her retirement, she lived in Salina for 10 years.

She was a member of the Pittsburg State University Alumni Assn. She also was a member of Grace Episcopal Church; Union Chapter No. 15, Order of Eastern Star and Business and Professional Women, all of Ottawa.

She married Dwight R. Chappell in 1935 in Bonner Springs. He died Feb. 19, 1946. She married Dale R. Foose in 1984 in Salina. He died in January 1994.

Survivors include a son, Thomas J. Chappell, Overland Park; two grandsons; and two great-granddaughters.
