Daniel Newnan Cone, Sr. was born October 2, 1814 in Camden County, Georgia, the son of William Cone (who served in both the Georgia and Florida legislatures) and Sarah Hardee Haddock Peeples Cone and the grandson of Revolutionary War hero William Henry Cone. Daniel was a law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty at age 27 on December 6, 1841 in Benton, Columbia County, Florida. He was married to Amy Long Cone, and they were the parents of Daniel Newman Cone, Jr. (who served in the Florida legislature). Daniel may be buried in an unmarked grave near his wife at Prospect Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, White Springs, Hamilton County, Florida, or, more likely, near his son at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Lake City, Columbia County, Florida.
